1941

A Diamond on the Delta

In 1941, local doctors envisioned the island as a place of respite for troops returning home from World War II.  In the beginning the island was just a mound of sand covered in tules.

  • Accessible only by boat, offering a unique Delta experience.
  • Our historic clubhouse was floated to the island from Stockton.
  • Members built the Club's first docks.
  • Volunteers transformed the island with lush lawns, a solar-heated swimming pool, and welcoming amenities.
  • A family-oriented club where everyone feels welcome
  • Nestled on 36 scenic acres on Tule Island, our Club is a private haven on the San Joaquin River.

1983

The Danielson Award

Dan and Doreen Danielson joined the club in 1983 during one of the most challenging periods in the club's history. Through Dan's exceptional leadership and dedication, the Club weathered those difficult years and emerged stronger than ever.

  • Elected Commodore, Treasurer and served on the Board of Directors
  • Managed the island as Island Manager.
  • Inspired the creation of the Danielson Award which was established to recognize members who provide outstanding service to Delta Yacht Club.
  • Received the first Danielson Award in 1992 in recognition of his extraordinary dedication.
